Rasbert Turner, Star Writer
The residents of Guys Hill, St Catherine, are singing their praises of two policemen who successfully aided in the delivery of a baby inside a police vehicle late last week. They are constables Rohan Frigenette and S Smith both of the Guys Hill police. THE STAR was informed that the police got the call that a mother was in labour in the Tavern Hill community. A unit went to the community and picked up the mother and a friend. They were placed in the rear of the police vehicle and the journey to Linstead began. Upon reaching the Devil's Race Course area the mother is said to have started to make sounds consistent with her going into labour. "I told my colleague to go to the back of the vehicle. Then mi hear a strange sound and di friend said di baby a come," Frigenette said. The cop said that it became obvious to them that the child was ready to be delivered and so they got to work. "While slowing down, I told my colleague to get the mother and he did as was told," the smiling policeman said. Due to the caring nature of the policemen and their first aid training both mother and baby were safely taken to the Linstead Hospital after delivery. "It was good work di police dem do, so wi a big dem up. This is saving life and we appreciate that," a taxi driver said. Several residents with whom THE STAR spoke shared similar views. |
