|||||
Controversial deejay Vybz Kartel will today appear in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court for a preliminary hearing after charges were laid against him yesterday. The deejay was slapped with three charges by investigators from the Major Investigation Task Force (MIT). The artiste, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, was charged with murder, illegal possession of a firearm and conspiracy to murder The charges against Palmer, who is from a Kingston 8 address, were made following an interview by the MIT detectives in the presence of his attorneys The allegation is that on July 11, Palmer along with other men conspired to murder Barrington 'Bossie' Burton, a 27 year- old businessman/promoter of a Gregory Park address in St Catherine. Burton was murdered while he was standing with friends along Walkers Avenue in Gregory Park. Before the charges against the deejay had been released to the public yesterday evening, one of the deejay's attorneys had indicated that he could be facing multiple criminal cases. "It may be multiple, but I'm not at liberty to discuss or say the nature at this point," Tom Tavares-Finson had said. Kartel has been in police custody since Friday after he along with three companions were arrested at a hotel in New Kingston and charged with possession of ganja. On Friday, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ealan Powell, the head of the Criminal Investigation Branch, had said that Kartel's arrest was linked to a wider investigation. Apart from Tavares-Finson, Kartel is also represented by Christian Tavares-Finson and Michael Deans. |
