Perhaps second only to Waterhouse's Donovan Duckie, and to a lesser extent Lenny Hyde Sr, at Humble Lion, Sporting Central Academy's Vassell Reynolds is perhaps the most satisfied coach after three rounds of the National Premier League.

With the Clarendon team earning six points from two games on the trot, and with their next opponent parish mates Humble Lion, whom many feel Reynolds gifted three points to avert their relegation, it couldn't be far from a dream start, he himself may not have envisioned.

"As the coach, I am very pleased," Reynolds told Star Sports, shortly after his side turned back the challenge of a pumped-up Arnett Gardens side 3-1 last Sunday at Brancourt.

Reynolds, without an official contract, was brought in as a special assistant towards the end of the past two seasons. According to credible sources, he was initially overlooked for the coaching job early in the pre-season, hence a less than impressive start could have spelt uncertainty about his long-term role in the team.

"I think I had done enough to deserve a chance at this level but I am new to the league in a major role and to have rebounded from the opening loss to Portmore United, and score back-to-back wins is an achievement," he said.

What's even more significant is the solid start has been achieved against the background that the team has lost six quality players.

The early form, Reynolds says, is a good tonic for the largely inexperienced coaching staff that have for the first time included a goalkeeping coach as the squad reel from the departure of both André Blake and Jacomena Barrett, the respective first and second choice custodians last season.

"What it does (solid start) is give the staff confidence to work harder for the larger aim of staying in the top six until the end of the third round."
