A man who used a board to beat a child causing swelling and bruises to her left and right arms was fined $10,000 or six months in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Kamar Jackson, a 27-year-old chef from a Kingston 11 address, was charged with cruelty to a child.

According to police reports, the complainant, the child's biological father, realised the injuries to his daughter's hand when she and his other daughter had come to visit him from their mother's house.

He then made enquiries about how the child received the injuries and was told by his other daughter that it was their stepfather who beat her.

Subsequently, the complainant sought medical assistance for his daughter and made a report to the police.

Following investigations, the accused was arrested and charged.
