Lady Saw, Spice and Pamputae will join actress and television personality Audrey Reid for her birthday celebration in true dancehall style in Montego Bay, St James, tonight.
According to a release sent to THE WEEKEND STAR, the event entitled 'Ladies of the Night' is designed to appeal to men and women who love the dancehall culture.
"For the past few years, I have been having my birthday in England. That is almost every year when I go to England to perform, my birthday always catches me there, so I decided that this year, while I am in Jamaica I will have an event here," explained Reid, who is known for her starring roles in Jamaican movies such as Dancehall Queen, Third World Cop and the newly released Ghett A Life, now playing in cinemas.
"I did work at Vegas Flamingo and fell in love with the place so decided to have it here, hopefully there will be a second leg in Kingston."
Reid, who is the no-nonsense judge on Tastee Talent trail, has delighted Jamaican, Caribbean and international audiences with her biting wit and brutal honesty. Over the years, she has built a strong following for her roles in productions such as the television sitcom, Me And Me Kru and stage performances such as Higglers.
"It's a ladies night and the ladies were chosen because they are energetic and can hold an audience. They are good performers. They were also available for the occasion," explained Reid, about the performers for the event.
Lady Saw, the self-titled Mumma of the Dancehall, will be the feature act on the show. Known for her versatility on the stage and her raunchy lyrics, she and Reid are planning some surprises for the fans.
"People can expect the unexpected at the show - maybe things outside our comfort zone - plenty surprises in store ... Instead of deejaying Lady Saw or Spice might be doing street opera," Reid joked, when asked about what people should expect from the show. "People have to come and see what we have in store - whatever it is that night will be mad - MoBay a go tun up - entertainment galore."
Saw will be joined by popular local deejays Spice and Pamputae. Spice is known for songs such as Rampin Shop and Screechie while Pamputae is known for her collaboration with Spice Slim Girl vs Fluffy Girl. She also has songs such as Goodie Good and Ride It.
The show is expected to start at 9:30 p.m. Tickets are available at Fontana Pharmacy and El Paso Records in Montego Bay and at Texaco in Lucea.
