The late Dennis Brown is set to be honoured by the Government on National Heroes Day.

On October 17, the Order of Distinction, Commander Class, will be bestowed on the singer posthumously in recognition of his outstanding musical achievements. Dennis Brown is without a doubt one of Jamaica's most influential music icons, throughout his storied career he recorded countless hit singles and albums. His body of work which spans from the late 60s to the time of his passing in 1999 is arguably one of the greatest catalogues of music in the modern era of Jamaican music. Such was the magnitude of his work that even today he is still regarded as the Crown Prince of Reggae.

Brown's first recording was an original song called Lips Of Wine for producer Derrick Harriott. However, his first release was a single titled No Man Is An Island, which he recorded at the age of 12 for Clement Coxsone Dodd's Studio One label, in late 1969. Over the next three decades he went on to record for numerous top producers scoring hit after hit both locally and abroad. He is also known for hits such as Promised Land, Money In My Pocket, Revolution among others.

Dennis Brown also established himself as a music producer of note, while operating his own labels DEB and Yvonne's Special. Under these labels he produced several of his own albums as well as songs for other artiste including Gregory Issacs, Bob Andy and Junior Delgado.
