A member of the Jamaica Defence Force who was accused of carnal abuse walked free from the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court after a successful no-case submission. He is Dwayne Jackson, 28-year-old of Bog Walk, St Catherine. Jackson was freed after the complainant failed to identified him as the person who got her pregnant as a 15-year-old. The now 16-year-old told Resident Magistrate Natalie Brooks that she has only met the accused on the social network Facebook and that she has never met him. Defence attorney Michael Deans then submitted that the Crown has failed to established a prima facie case against his client. He added that the matter should be dismissed as a result as there was no case to answer. The RM upheld the submission made by the lawyer but before setting Jackson free, she gave him a stern warning. The Child Development Agency was contacted and it was revealed that an investigation has already been launched against the complainant. Allegations are that Jackson was accused by the complainant of having sex with her on three occasions, during which time she became pregnant. She made a report to the police and he was subsequently charged with carnal abuse. From the matter was first mention on March 1, Jackson had maintained his innocence. |
