A 28-year-old labourer, who has been charged with several ganja-related incidents, was remanded in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday. He is Sean Brown from a Hanover address. Brown is to return to court on October 11, when the matter will be mentioned. Allegations are that on August 5, a female who was about to board a flight destined to Barbados was stopped and searched at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston. It is reported that the female who was questioned was later taken to the Kingston Public Hospital where she expelled five cylindrical parcels containing ganja. THE STAR understands that Brown was implicated in that incident after the female gave statements against him. It is reported that the female, who is now serving her sentence, told the police that she was paid by Brown to transport the drugs. On August 7, Brown was arrested and charged with possession of ganja, dealing in ganja, taking steps to export ganja and conspiracy. "I have been in custody since August for a crime I did not commit," Brown told the court. He also admitted that he knew the female who has been sentenced but that he and her made no arrangements to the sort. Subsequently, the investigator told the court that he is still unsure of the defendants address and that he was deported from the United States sometime ago after being convicted on drug-related charges. |
