Drunken man hit by bus

A man who was believed to be intoxicated when he was hit by a Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) bus is now hospitalised with broken limbs.

Information reaching THE STAR suggests that the pedestarian who appeared to be drunk walked into the path of the passenger vehicle along East Queen Street last Friday night and was hit.

The man who also appeared to be gazing was said to be having a conversation on his cellphone at the time when he was hit, THE STAR has learnt.

Reginald Allen,communications manager of the JUTC, confirmed that he was aware of the incident.

He said that, "The man was allegedly on his phone and drunk, and he ran across the road and into the path of the bus."

Allen also said that the man received injuries to his leg but further update on his status was unknown.

Head of the Kingston Central Police Division, Superintendent Steve McGregor, said the police were aware of the incident and an investigation is in progress.

"The driver was breathalised ... all the necessary steps were taken ... he was served with the warning notice," McGregor said.

He also pointed out that the bus involved in the accident was taken to the Elletson Road Police Station for testing.
