LA Lewis offered bail

Dancehall personality L.A. Lewis, who is accused of defacing public property, was offered bail in the sum of $50,000 when he appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

The matter concerning the self proclaimed "7 Star General" is set for trial on November 28.

remanded in custody

Lewis, whose birth name is Horace Lewis, was granted bail after he was remanded in custody the day before for failing to appear on his scheduled court date on Monday.

On Wednesday, one of Lewis' attorneys, Coleen Lewis, had said, "It is strange, however, that the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) or the police cannot provide any evidence of L.A. Lewis recruiting persons for the charges."

She had also noted, "L.A. Lewis has been charged only for the areas with the PNP signs and not the JLP ones, making one think that this has gone into the political arena."

fined $70,000

The allegations are that Lewis was fined $70,000 by the NSWMA for defacing public spaces in seven spaces in the Corporate Area.

However, Resident Magistrate (RM) Judith Pusey had been far from amused that Lewis missed his court date.

RM Pusey had said, "Don't think that I will allow this court to become a high drama area for entertainment."

Lewis' other attorney, Charles Ganga-Singh, had argued that the investigating officer did not serve the summons on Lewis properly.

However, this was denied by the investigating officer.
