As season eight of Digicel Rising Stars draws to a close, the two most talented contestants are left remaining in a face-off that could only be compared to that of Noddy Virtue and Christopher Martin in the second season. Vocal heavyweights Tash and Latty J have the country divided as viewers scramble at the last minute to vote for their favourite star. Though the season had a rocky journey with multiple changes to the judging panel, the chill room and elimination and readmission of some of the crowd's favourites, in the end Jamaicans were finally voting again, and voicing their choices loudly! So who will take home the Digicel Rising Stars crown? It all comes down to the voters, but before you dial in your vote, let's look back at who gave you the most memorable performances. During the season, Tash's first performance onstage showed the competition and the audience exactly what to expect for the rest of the season. Her performance of Ikaya's Fly Away blew the audience away, and got her excellent feedback from the judges. Tash's next onstage performance had an even greater effect on viewers and voters alike, as she left the audience and judges in awe when she performed Beyoncé and Lady Gaga's Telephone, as a part of her Least Favourite Genre, Hip Hop. Tash then blew the roof off the Courtleigh Auditorium on Gospel night with her favoured rendition of Judith Gayle's Daddy- O. And on Open Genre Night, she showed the voters why she was the girl to keep with her performance of Rihanna's Only Girl. Since then, Tash's performances, though still entertaining, seemed to fall below the very high bar she had set for herself, and the judges let her know. Voters on the other hand kept Tash in the competition out of sheer loyalty, hoping that with each new performance she would redeem herself. On the opposing platform, we have the spunky and sultry Latty J. The small girl with the big voice, like the competition, got off to a slow start. Though obviously talented, Latty did not make a wowing impression on the audience or judges until her performance of Chevelle Franklin's Radio's Playing on Gospel Night. Latty J rocked the auditorium that night, but the hype was short-lived as a week later she was sent home for a less-than-impressive Reggae Medley. But luckily for Latty J, show's producer Sharon Schroeter recognised the raw talent in Latty and brought her back as the Producer's Pick. Since then, Latty's fighting spirit has been putting her on top week after week, first with Jennifer Hudson's If This Isn't Love on Open Genre Night, then Ceelo Green's Forget You at the top 4 performance show, and then again with Diana King's La-La-Lies at the top 3 performance show. With each performance being unbelievably better than the last, Latty was a fast climbing favourite who scored major points with the judges for her hunger and drive. Final performance show At the final performance show, both contestants stepped their game up, each giving two out of three memorable performances that could make either the champion. Tash's rendition of Alicia Key's Fallen was soul stirring, while her Medley with I-Octane put the crowd in full gear! Latty J's version of Aretha Franklin's Respect woke up the audience and had them singing along, then her duet with Chuck Fenda for the song Coming Over stirred the audience further, and scored her only positive comments from the judges. After a battle like that, even local celebrities on Twitter chose favourites: "Tash is my choice ... she has mad presence, and has kept Jamaica entertained for more than 12 weeks" Said popular Dancehall artiste Cherine Anderson. But Dancehall icon Diana King, who is of a different opinion, replied to Anderson directly : "If I could I'd vote for Latty J, she sings our songs betta dan we!" So which of these two budding Rising Stars divas really deserves to take home the crown? Which one will you be voting for?
