Rasbert Turner, STAR Writer A man who used a machete to wound his mother pleaded guilty when he appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday. He is Rashaun Lyons, 19-year-old labourer of Waterford, Portmore, St Catherine. In court, Lyons told Resident Magistrate Marcia Dunbar-Green he was terrified by his actions. "Your Honour, I am guilty of wounding her. However, it was while we struggled for the machete that she was cut in the chest. I was shocked," Lyons said. He added that he was being beaten by his mother with a pot when the incident occurred. The court heard that on September 1 the accused used a machete to chop his mother on her chest. A report was made and he was subsequently charged with unlawful wounding. The court has ordered the Probation Department to do a social inquiry report. Lyons is scheduled for sentencing on November 1. |
