African Son carries on family tradition in music

African Son

Upcoming reggae artiste African Son is one of the bright new talents in the music business. The talented singer, whose real name is Keith Simms, is the son of Keith Simms who was the leader of the pioneer reggae group The Africans, who did the hit single Grand Time In Zion in the 1970s.

African Son grew up in a small district called Sevens Road in May Pen, Clarendon, and completed his education at Central High School. He was exposed to music from an early age because of his father's involvement in the music business, so it came as no surprise when he chose to pursue a career in music.

"My father is my main influence, him always try fi push mi forward in whatever I am doing and I have to pick up where him stop in this music business. It's like a family tradition so I have to keep it going, hopefully one day, my children will do the same," said African Son.

To date, African Son has performed on a number of events and he has also recorded and released numerous singles. However, he is still searching for his big break in music, but is quite confident that it won't be long before he gets the success he yearns.

"I know it won't be long before I get my big break in the biz and I am not worried about such things. Right now I am focusing on making good music, my real desire is to follow the path that Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Jacob Miller and many other greats once trod," he said.

African Son is currently promoting three new singles; Empress I Am Ready, People Dancing and Zinc Fence which was done with fellow Clarendonian Kashu for Wildlife Productions.

All three singles are enjoying good rotation locally and are available on popular music download sites iTunes, Amazon.com and Rhapsody.
