Former national Under-20 player Renorio Downswell scored a 53rd minute goal to carry Reno to a stunning 1-0 win over last year's runners-up Boys' Town in their opening match of the National Premier League at Collie Smith Drive yesterday.

In another upset, Humble Lion got the better of Harbour View 2-1 at the Harbour View Mini-Stadium. Rafique Thomas scored for Harbour View in the 29th minute before a Wolry Wolfe penalty (42nd) and an Onike Ford winner in the 90th minute unravelled the hosts.

In the day's other matches, defending champions Tivoli Gardens started their quest for a second consecutive title with a hard-fought come-from-behind 2-1 win over newcomers Montego Bay United at the Edward Seaga Sports Complex. Navion Boyd (74th) and Jameel Thompson (90th), netted for the west Kinsgton-based team.

Wilfred Smith scored the opening goal of the match for Montego Bay United in the 52nd minute.

At the Trelawny Stadium, former champions Arnett Gardens recorded an exciting 2-1 win over hosts Village United. Kirk Ramsey (14th) and national striker Errol Stevens (22nd) netted for Arnett Gardens. Dino Williams scored the consolation goal for Village United in the 33rd minute.

At Collie Smith Drive, Downswell, who is the son of former national senior coach Wendell Downswell, was gifted a soft goal by Boy's Town custodian, Kirk Porter, when he let go what seems to be an easy catch cross, on to the feet of the striker, who calmly slotted home in the back of the net.

The 23-year-old Renorio said he was very elated with his performance and said he wants to become the leading goal scorer in the Premier League this season.

"I feel extremely proud of my performance," said Downswell, who spent the last two-years attending Miami International University in the United States.

Boys' Town head coach Andrew Price said he was very disappointed with his team's efforts in front of goal.

"I think we deserved to win the game based on the territorial advantage that we had for the entire game," said Price.

"We got a lot of clear chances to put away the game and we just could not do it," he said.
