Colours show mettle in first win of the season

Defending champions Colours International showed their mettle when they defeated a spirited Portmore Pines team by four wickets in the Wray and Nephew White Overproof Rum Portmore Cricket League at the Portsmouth ground last Sunday.

It was former Jamaica youth player Robert Weir who stepped up and carried his bat at the close with 70 not out, as Colours successfully chased down Pines score of 151 all out in 32.3 overs, with 154-6, as only John Ross Campbell with 14 and offered any real help for the young batsman.

Andre Bryce (2-20) and Jermaine Bennett (2-28) took most wickets for Pines. Earlier, Pines were bowled out as they passed the 150-run mark, as Damion Bryce top-scored with 43 runs, and wicketkeeper/batsman Terrence Brown chipped in with 34.

At the Bridgeport ground, Ken's Wildflower defeated Reid's Pen by 81 runs. Scores: Ken's 177-8 (30 overs); Orane Williams 96, Ryan Bennett (3-16), Dennis Bulli 2-42. Reid's Pen 96 all out, Horace Miller 19. Tamar Lambert 3-10, Myron Chin 3-15.

At Hamilton Gardens, Belmont romped past the U-19 Development Squad by six wickets. Scores: Development Squad 120 all out (30.5 overs), Courtney Francis 25, Kemar Brown 21; Junior Morris 3-5, Akeem Fraser 2-15. Belmont 123-4, Odane Hartley 66, Travis Reid 55, Nickoy Lindo 3-34. The competition continues tomorrow.
