AN EX-POLICEMAN who is charged with illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition was remanded when he appeared in the St Ann's Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Thursday. Cornel Hastings, 26, who is also called 'Geico', has been denied bail several times as he is said to be a flight risk. A forensic report that was outstanding was presented to the Resident Magistrate yesterday and Hastings' case was put off for mention on September 19. The ex-police constable was arrested after being searched near the St Ann's Bay Police Station in early July. The police reported that a .44 revolver with two rounds was taken from his waistband. Investigators are still looking into a possible connection between the seized weapon and a notorious Spanish Town-based gang. However, the police are refusing to say whether the ex-cop was under surveillance for his alleged links to the criminal underworld. Hastings was given marching orders from the police force in 2010 following what a source confirmed was a string of infractions. |
