Illegal gun case against teenager transferred

A Portmore teenager who was caught with an illegal gun had his case transferred to the Gun Court recently when he appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magis-trate's Court.

He is Neko Newell, an 18-year-old resident of Watson Grove in Portmore.

When Newell appeared before Resident Magistrate Simone Wolfe-Reece, the matter was ordered transferred.

Allegations are that on August 19, a police party was on patrol in the Watson Grove community when Newell was seen with a knapsack. The court heard that his behaviour aroused the suspicion of the police.

Further allegations are that he was stopped and searched and a 9mm pistol along with several live rounds were found.

He was taken into custody and following investigations was arrested and charged with illegal possession of firearm and ammunition by Corporal Garfield Ellis of the Portmore police.
