Accused robber says woman handed him her jewellery There was an outburst of laughter in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Thursday as one of two men incriminated in the robbery of jewellery from a woman told the court that the complainant gave him her valuables without him asking. Jermaine Folks and Nigel Hendricks are both charged with robbery with aggravation but had slightly different fates in court as Folk is to return on September 20 for sentencing while Hendricks is to return on the same date for mention. Both men were remanded and also had to submit their fingerprints to the police. One of the accused men told the court that on the day of the incident, he was walking along Beechwood Avenue in the Corporate Area when he came upon a female who he stopped to ask a question. He said to his amazement, the woman began to remove her jewellery and other valuables starting with her chain and handed them to him unprovoked which amused the court. Shortly afterwards, he reasoned that the co-accused had approached them and that might have intimidated the complainant. "I never back a knife at this girl and seh give me your things ... I never do that," one of the accused told the court. |
