Rasbert Turner, Star Writer A Haitian was fined $10,000 or three months' hard labour in the Old Harbour Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday for illegal entry. He is Ronald Herare, a 42-year-old marine mechanic from Petionville in Haiti. Herare, who had pleaded guilty on Tuesday, was sentenced by Resident Magistrate Marcia Dunbar-Green. He was also ordered deported by the court. Sergeant Patrick Monroe told the court that on July 25, the accused was spotted at a business place in Old Harbour, St Catherine. His behaviour aroused the suspicion of the police and he was accosted. Investigations later revealed that he paid US$250 to land in Old Harbour Bay. He was subsequently charged with illegal entry. Herare had pleaded not guilty on previous court appearances. |
