A Haitian National who illegally entered the island two months ago pleaded guilty in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday. He is Ronald Herare, 42-year-old marine mechanic of Petionville, Haiti. When Herare appeared before Resident Magistrate Marcia Dunbar-Green he indicated through an interpreter that he wished to change his plea. He subsequently admitted that he landed in Jamaica illegally. Herare is to be sentenced on Thursday in the Old Harbour Resident Magistrate's Court. Sergeant Patrick Monroe told the court that on July 25 the accused was spotted at a business place in Old Harbour, St Catherine. His behaviour caught the attention of the police and he was accosted. He revealed that he paid US$250 (J$21,500) to land in Old Harbour Bay. He was subsequently charged with illegal entry. He had pleaded not guilty on previous appearances. |
