Abduction drama unfolds on bus?

A Bus Driver anda conductor who are both charged with the abduction of a female passenger pleaded not guilty and were each granted $250,000 bail in court yesterday.

The 29-year-old bus driver, Bobby Martin, and the conductor Barrington Foster both from Kingston 11 addresses are to return to court on October 25 for a preliminary enquiry into the matter.

The men were granted bail on condition that they surrender their travel documents and report to the Olympic Gardens police on Mondays and Thursdays. A stop order was also placed.

Allegations are that on Saturday August 20, about 11:20 a.m., the complainant boarded a blue Hiace bus being operated by the men. The court heard that when the woman asked for her stop she was prevented from getting off the bus.

The court also heard that when the complainant made further attempts to get off the bus the conductor prevented her from going to the door and the driver said, "Mine yuh mek me get a ticket.

Police intervention

Interestingly, it took the intervention of the police for the woman to disembark the bus.

The court heard that an officer saw the woman hanging from the bus shouting 'offica.

Nevertheless, the attorney representing the men said that his clients strongly deny the allegations. He explained that the woman had boarded the bus that was plying the Three Miles to downtown Kingston route and when the conductor asked her to pay her bus fare she refused.

He said the conductor then told her that he was going to take her back to the location where she had boarded the bus.

However, Senior Resident Magistrate Georgiana Fraser who was hesitant in granting the accused men bail said, "Even if it is that the woman did not pay her fare in cash it should not have been demanded in kind."
