Gleaner stop Scotia

The Gleaner's custodian Everdean Scarlet pulled off two brilliant saves in a penalty shootout to lift the newspaper company to an exciting 4-3 victory over Scotia Group in the final of the Kingston and St Andrew Football (KSAFA) Business House knockout competition on Thursday at the University of the West Indies Bowl.

Scarlet, hailed by his teammates as their man-of-the match, also fired home his spot kick in the shootout. Loxley Thompson, Bernard Blackwood and Fabian Swaby were the scorers for The Gleaner in the shootout. Both teams had played to a dull 0-0 draw at full and extra-time.

The victory was a bittersweet one for the men from North Street, who were beaten by Scotia 2-1 and as such failed to qualify for the semi-final of the league competition.

"I think that I had a great performance in this game because of the fact that I have been regaining my confidence, which I thought I lost in the past two years," said a very delighted Scarlet after the match.

"I wasn't nervous going into the shootout, because this is one of my specialities and I have never lost a penalty shoot-out at this level in my career," said Scarlett plies his trade for Cavalier in the KSAFA Super League competition.
