Swim coach charged after robbing supermarket

The coach who was held in connection with last Saturday's robbery at the Empire Supermarket in Cross Roads, St Andrew, has been charged.

He is Nathan Brown, 46, an assistant coach of the Jamaica swimming team.

Information reaching THE STAR is that Brown was on Thursday slapped with charges of robbery with aggravation and illegal possession of a firearm.

Reports are that about 8:40 a.m., two men, one armed with a gun, entered and robbed the supermarket. They then escaped on a motorbike.

The police were alerted and the motorbike was later intercepted at the intersection of Lyndhurst Road and Beechwood Avenue.

The coach was held and $2 million was taken from him.

Meanwhile, the police believe that the other suspect escaped with the firearm.
