MAN HELD IN LIGHT METER SCAM

JPS contractor accused of demanding money from customer

A JPS contractor accused of taking a man's service meter while demanding $25,000 for its return was given bail when he appeared in court on Wednesday.

Devon Walker of a Kingston address was charged with breaches of the Corruption Prevention Act. He was offered $150,000 bail when he appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court.

He will return to court on November 10 when the matter is expected to be mentioned.

It is reported that Walker and another man allegedly went to the complainant's house and took away his service meter and demanded that he pay them $25,000 to return it.

The complainant reported the matter to the Fraud Squad and a sting operation was set up. The police allegedly found the meter in Walker's car. He was later arrested and charged.
