Davis leads the way for Old Harbour

Despite having over 20 years of experience in the game, Lascelles Davis still puts his shoulder to the wheel to lead by example for the Old Harbour cricket team in the SDC 20/20 Cricket Competition.

Captain of the St Catherine outfit, the 38-year-old father of two prides himself in being able to pass on the knowledge, values and experience to aspiring cricketers. Davis is from the community of Belvedere in Westmoreland, but while attending school surprisingly never played cricket. However, in the community, there was a cricket pitch and that's where he fell in love with the game.

Davis left Westmoreland for Kingston at the age of 25 where he joined the Old Harbour cricket team.

Since then, he has played for the St Catherine parish team for 10 years and for Old Harbour for 12 years.

Despite the added responsibility, Davis says he is proud to be a part of the unit.

"As the captain of the Old Harbour team, I am proud and happy because these men are great.

"I know I can expect 120 per cent from them when we go out and play at any game," Davis continued.

The captain also paid tribute to older players accepting their roles as mentors.

"Ronville Brown, Andre Russell, Rodman Powell, Robert Cato and many others are helping to mould the younger men in the team to not only be great cricketers, but to be respectable men in their community and for their families."

Reflecting on the Social Develop-ment Commission's National Twenty/20 Community Cricket Competition, Davis commented: "We have won several competitions such as the Sherwin Williams Cricket Competition, but to win SDC 20/20 would be our biggest win to date." Old Harbour will play Content Garden in Sunday's final.

"I trust that Old Harbour will do well, we are not overconfident but we trust and have faith that our hard work will pay off."
