Old Harbour, Content Gardens contest SDC T20 finale

Russell - File

Two great teams, Old Harbour from St Catherine and Content Gardens from St Ann will go head-to-head for the championship title in the final of the SDC National Twenty/20 Community Cricket Competition at the Alpart Sports Complex in St Elizabeth on Sunday.

Based on early predictions from cricket fans, Old Harbour are favourites to win with the likes of Lascelles Davis, Ronville Brown, Robert Cato and Andre Russell leading the community cricket team to victory. But, the Content Gardens team should not be discredited too quickly as brothers Howard and Alonzo Harris and Kanute Ferguson will be a force to be reckoned with and they along with the rest of the Old Harbour team should put up a fight for the $3 million in cash and prizes.

The Ultimate Jerk and Sports Complex in St Ann was the place to be over the weekend were the semi-finals took place. In the opening game, Content Gardens went against Waltham PYC. Content Gardens won the game making 179 for the loss of 5 wickets after 20 overs. In reply Waltham PYC made 147 all out off 19 overs. Content Gardens' Garlon Livermore was the top scorer of the match making 61.

In the second match of the day's events, Old Harbour crushed their opponents Race Course, with a score of 193 for 7 off 20 overs. In trying to recover, Race Course made 114 all out off 17.1 overs.

Jamaica and West Indies player Russell exhibited first-class batting technique to make 102, which is the highest score for both matches. Robert Cato also showed his hunger for the title when he caught the last ball in fine style to send his team to the final.
