Christopher Thomas, Star Writer

WESTERN BUREAU:

A Quarry, Montego Bay, resident was offered $25,000 bail in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday after denying that he stole a door from another man's house.

Durant Lewis pleaded not guilty to housebreaking and larceny.

When he appeared before Resident Magistrate (RM) Vivienne Harris, Lewis told her he had seen the door along a track under a guinep tree and took it for himself.

"When him (complainant) call police pon me, mi a wonder what, 'cause mi a nuh thief," Lewis declared, adding that since his arrest he has only been visited by one of his church members.

Meanwhile, the prosecution told RM Harris that their case file is currently incomplete and requested a month to collect additional evidence.

Lewis was offered $25,000 bail with up to two sureties and was also ordered not to go near the complainant's property. His fingerprints are also to be taken by the police.

The case will be mentioned again on September 29.

Allegations are that between August 9 and 10, the complainant's house in Quarry was broken into and a number of items, including the door, two car radios, an equaliser, an electric kettle, and 10 crates of batteries, were stolen.

Investigations were conducted, and the stolen door was found at Lewis' house on August 18. The Montego Hills police were summoned, and Lewis was subsequently arrested and charged.
