The 'Formila One' for music

Formila One - Contributed

Gavin Orlando Kerr, aka Formila One, is set to make his mark in music.

Starting his musical journey when he was only three years old, singing in church as the lead singer on the junior choir, Formila One said by age 17 he took his music on a professional level.

In 2001, he recorded his first song, Can't Forget, at Joe Gibbs Recording Studio on the 'Fire' rhythm. However, the song was never released.

Being around some great musicians made him learn what he was getting into, learning the business side of the music as well as the physical. He moved on to other studios such as Fams House Music Group, Sugar Minott, Uprising records and many others. However, Fams House was where he received special musical grooming.

musical inspiration

His musical inspiration comes from artistes such as Wayne Wonder, Bob Marley, Pinchers and Buju Banton but mostly the living legend, Aston 'Family Man' Barrett, from the Wailers.

"In 2005, I met André, aka Drezion, got the privilege to record a couple songs such as The Ways and Living in the Streets." He also recorded tracks for different producers. In 2007 he reached the top 10 of the Kingston leg of the Tastee Talent Trail competition. From there, he gained a lot of exposure. He also entered Magnum Kings and Queens and Digicel Rising Stars in 2008.

"Things began to pick up in 2009 as myself and Drezion built a studio for ourselves, Tenament Yard Records. We got a lot of work done," he said.

According to Formila One, one of the major things in his career was to hear that his song, Take Me Away, was doing well in Africa. That brought a good feeling, knowing good work has been done. Unfortunately, the studio had to be pulled down and everyone took a different path.

In 2010 he was introduced to a producer, Dam Rude, who recorded Yu Can Be.

"I have reunited with Fams House Music. As I said before, that is where I got most of my grooming. Since then, I've been involve in a lot of projects with the Fams House team including co-writing/producing/engineering," he said.

Formila One is working on projects to be released. He is featured in medley videos such as the Smooth Bass Medley, West Pine Medley and an appearance in G Whizz's video, Tomorrow. He said he is looking forward to bigger and better achievements. So anytime you hear the words "shoffle, it's Formila One again," that's his signature phrase.
