Phillips undaunted by 400mH controversy

Isa Phillips - Ricardo Makyn

Daegu, South Korea:

Jamaica's 400m hurdles competitor Isa Phillips is not too concerned with the controversies around his selection to the team in Daegu, South Korea, for the IAAF World Championships in Athletics, where he recently featured.

Phillips, who finished fifth at the National Trials in Kingston, made the cut just a day before the qualification date deadline when he ran 48.94 seconds, making him the fastest Jamaican for the year at an international meet in Germany.

The result meant that Roxroy Cato, the man who finished third at the National Trials behind Leford Green and Josef Robertson, would be left at home, with him having not met the 'A' qualifying standard for the championships.

Cato's management team did not take kindly to the last minute axing of the athlete, but Phillips is not overly concerned with how he got here and is simply happy to be once again representing his country.

Phillips once again failed to make final after finishing fourth in 49.16 in his semi-final on Tuesday.

grateful

"I'm just grateful to be running I don't care about that controversy, that's their business, I pay attention to my business," Phillips stated.

"It wasn't the best race but it felt nice to be back and I'm just grateful to be here competing, being on the team and having an opportunity to represent the country and being given the chance," Phillips added.

The 27-year-old who had a rough year after coming back from a serious injury was not quite sure of his next move just yet.

"I don't know, I've been having a bad season and coming back late from stress fracture so I'm just grateful to be here in the first place," Phillips said.
