Daegu, South Korea:

New world 100m champion Yohan Blake believes his life has changed following his 9.92 seconds triumph inside the Daegu Stadium at the IAAF World Championships in Athletics.

Blake, 21, became the youngest-ever 100m world champion, taking full advantage of the absence of the close friend and training partner Usain Bolt, who was earlier disqualified for a false start.

"My life has changed, becoming a world champion; my life has been changed right now," Blake beamed shortly after the race in which American Walter Dix picked up the silver medal in 10.08, barely outsprinting the veteran St Kitts native Kim Collins, 10.09.

"It's a wonderful feeling, trust me, I'm feeling over the moon right now, I can hardly find words to talk about it, but to win the gold medal at 21 is a great feeling," Blake added before giving his thoughts on Bolt's mishap.

"It's very unfortunate because we have talked about this a lot; about the two of us battling for the gold medal at the big moment and to have fun, so to see him get disqualified was sad," Blake said.

"You could see his reaction after it happened. I thought they could have given him a next chance but I have to enjoy this moment because opportunities like this come by only once, so I had to make use of it."

"I don't know how I'm going to but I'll certainly find someway to celebrate.

"Knowing that he is my close training partner, I just had to go out there and get the job done because I know that's what he would have wanted me to do," Blake continued. "I just want to say a big thank you to everyone that supported me back home."

The youngster believes that he would have given the 100m and 200m world record holder a good run for his money had he been in the race, citing that he was always confident going into the showdown.

"It's good to have confidence and I went out there with a lot of that," Blake pointed out.

It's back to business however, for the former St Jago man, who must start preparing for the 4x100m relay and the upcoming Zurich Diamond League meet straight away.

"Now I'll have to go back, refocus on the relay and move forward to the Diamond League in Zurich," Blake shared.
