Jamaican track and field super athlete Usain Bolt's shocking disqualification at the 2011 World Athletics Championships in South Korea yesterday has received mixed reviews. The super athlete's false start in the 100 metres gave way for Yohan Blake to restore the World 100 metres title to Jamaica in a winning time of 9.92 seconds.
Bolt's disqualification has caused International Association of Athletic Federations (IAAF) officials to call an emergency meeting to review the false-start rule.
"If Bolt did run, Blake wouldn't get di chance to shine a so it go. We are just humans," Torey Graham, an athletics fan told THE STAR yesterday.
Another fan of the sport told us that, "The rules of the games should be changed because it's not fair to the athletes. They should bring back the old rule where if you false start once, the athlete can get a second chance," Richard Lawson said.
Meanwhile, Keisha West who describes herself as one of the sport's biggest fans thought that Bolt false started because he was not focused. "I think that he wanted to gain his legendary title but he was not focused or maybe he just allowed his nerves to get the better of him," she said.
Spanish Town's Mayor, Dr Andrew Wheatley, said it is very good to see Blake brought it home for Jamaica.
"I am very proud to be a St Jago past student and a Jamaican, this is a great moment for Jamaica and we should celebrate the privilege of victory, " Wheatley said. |
