Rasbert Turner, Star Writer Head of the Police Traffic Department, Senior Superintendent of Police Radcliffe Lewis, said they have intensified the search for a driver who has more than 100 unpaid traffic tickets. "There is no truth that this man has turned himself in. The police have even checked his place of residence and he was not found," Lewis said. He told The Star the police will continue their efforts to locate the suspect. The search for the man described as a 'serial traffic offender' started on Sunday after 113 unpaid traffic tickets were found in his name. He is Rudolph James of Longville Park, Clarendon. THE STAR was informed that the discovery was made during an operation by traffic personnel along Burke Road in Spanish Town on Sunday. "Yes, we are looking for this driver who committed almost every offence under the Road Traffic Act, and is yet to answer them," a policeman told The Star. The policeman was alarmed that the man accumulated the tickets over a four-month period. The pile of yellow tickets reflects charges such as not picking up at a bus stop, not wearing uniform, not wearing a seat belt, careless driving and a raft of other violations. "The driver even has several tickets issued by me for different traffic violations but him just chose not to attend court, " Constable Miguel Ebanks of the Traffic Department said. It was revealed to The Star that the man is not the owner of the vehicle that he drives. "This means that owners need to check out the persons who operate their vehicles, as it could be something different," a sergeant said. Police sources told The Star that a number of bench warrants have been issued for the offender. Checks by The Star revealed the man was given 16 traffic tickets on June 16 alone. He reportedly got the other tickets in St Catherine and Clarendon and a few elsewhere. Police personnel said it was a major victory and said they are stopping at nothing to catch offenders who believe they have eluded the police. |
