Ex-soldier charged with ganja possession

A 33-year-old ex-soldier was arrested and charged yesterday in Manchester and 470 pounds of ganja seized.

Wentworth Alva Ranger Reid has been charged with possession of ganja, transportation of and taking steps to export ganja.

Reports are that about 6:30 a.m., the Mandeville police were carrying out spot checks when they stopped a grey Toyota Corolla station wagon coming from St Elizabeth.

It is reported that the car was searched and 66 parcels of compressed ganja was found.

The ganja was reportedly packaged and prepared for export in the trunk of the car.

Reid is in police custody and will appear in the Mandeville Resident Magistrate's Court next Wednesday.

The Manchester police believe the ganja was being transported from St Elizabeth and Westmoreland to St Thomas.

Investigations are ongoing.
