Ninja Man's attacker pleads not guilty
An inmate accused of seriously injuring veteran dancehall deejay Desmond 'Ninja Man' Ballentine was brought before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday to answer to the charge of unlawful wounding.

The accused, Kevin Maitland, pleaded not guilty and is to return to court on October 4 when the matter will be mentioned.

Previously, it was reported that the deejay was "knocked unconscious" by the accused at the Horizon Adult Remand Centre in Kingston.

Allegations are that on August 3, the deejay was walking to his cell when he was attacked. It is reported that Ninja Man was hit in the head with a stone that the accused had concealed in a sock.

Ninja Man, dressed in white marina and shorts, apologised to the court for his attire stating that he did not know he was being taken to court.

When asked how he knew the accused was the one who knocked him unconscious he said, "Mi see him when him buss mi head, your Honour."

Despite this, the accused denied the allegations saying, "Your Honour, is a section with 48 man, an altercation was on the block, war between the whole block. Ninja Man dem throw water ina the TV and that cause the whole war."

The accused further told the court that he was not the person who injured the deejay.

Ninja Man, 45, has been in custody since 2009, and is awaiting trial for murder.
