Rev Miller's trial continues

The firearm trial for popular clergyman Reverend Al Miller that began last week Friday resumed in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Reverend Miller is accused of negligence, after he reportedly lost his licensed firearm last year.

The court heard testimonies from Michael Dixon, a representative of the Firearm Licensing Authority (FLA) and Brandon Armstong, the investigating officer in the matter.

Miller will return to court on August 21 for the trial to continue.

In June, Miller and his attorney Leslie Campbell indicated their willingness to plead guilty, if the resident agreed not to record a conviction against his name. However, the resident declined the request and the clergyman later announced that he would stand trial.

Allegations are that on January 21, about 6:30 p.m., Miller was on a school compound in the Shortwood area picking plums with his 30-year-old daughter. He reportedly left his black pouch containing his licensed firearm, a .38 revolver, and some cash on the floor of his vehicle.

It is alleged that after Miller and his daughter arrived home he discovered that the pouch was missing with the firearm and its other contents.

The matter was reported to the Constant Spring Police Station and he was later charged.
