Amid many counteractions and controversy in dancehall, groups RDX and Voicemail have collaborated on a dance song, a show of unity.

Speaking with THE STAR, Voicemail's Kevin said the idea for the song, Splice, came about some weeks ago while at an event with RDX.

"The idea came about when we and dem deh Water Party. A lot of people were of the notion that we and dem have sup'm but wi nuh have nutten. I don't think it's going to be a big push to stop division in the music. But, in terms of us, it will show people that we are unified," Kevin told THE STAR.

This view was fully supported by Renegade of RDX.

artistes clashing

"We and Voicemail are basically the main voices behind dancing music within dancehall and, with this upsurge in artistes clashing, we wanted to demonstrate that there still exists some unity within dancehall," he said.

Renegade explained that the dance move, 'Splice', that was created by Fresh-Kid has been gaining a lot of popularity in the dancehall. "Splice is a very easy dance to do, even people who are not dancers are doing the dance," he said.

As for the song, Renegade said it provides a breath of fresh air.

"The response has been phenomenal. A week out and everybody is just jumping on the song. It's a collab that many people didn't expect. And not a lot of dancing songs are being done now so this is like a drink of water in the desert," he said.

Meanwhile, Kevin said Voicemail is promoting singles from their upcoming album, Another Level. It includes Bottles And Cups, featuring Terro 3000 and already has a music video, while one is also being discussed for Lighter.
