Attorney offered bail

An attorney who was charged with fraudulent conversion on August 16 was offered $2 million bail in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday.

He is Sheldon Codner, 31, from a Kingston 10 address. He returns to court on September 29 for mention.

According to court documents, Codner was retained by the complainant to act on his behalf in the acquisition of two properties in Mandeville, Manchester. It is understood that the properties were being sold by First Global Bank.

Allegations are that between February and May, a total of $21 million was paid over to the accused by the complainant. The monies were to be paid over to the law firm, Samuda and Johnson, acting on behalf of First Global Bank.

Further allegations are that Codner had until August 4 to pay over the money, however, on the expiration of the contracted date, the accused had only paid over $9 million.

The matter was reported to the Fraud Squad and the attorney was arrested.

The court heard that Codner has been unable to adequately account for the remaining sum of $12 million.
