Stepdad injures 5-y-o for dumpling - Child beaten after biting man's food

A man who beat a five-year-old boy after he claimed the boy bit into several of his dumplings before he got to eat them, was given a two-year suspended sentence in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on Thursday.

Dalry Palmer, 30, a labourer from Old Harbour, St Catherine, was sentenced in the court after he was found guilty of child abuse.

He was sentenced by Resident Magistrate Marcia Dunbar-Green who told him that he had been convicted for a a serious act.

The Crown led evidence that the accused went to the home of his lover for his dinner. While there, he realised that the child had bitten the dumplings and left the remaining portions in the plate.The accused became very angry and severely beat and injured the child. A report was subsequently lodged at the Old Harbour Police Station which resulted in Palmer's arrest.

Further investigation led to the arrest and charge of the child's grandmother Jennifer Senior.

In court, Senior was sentenced to 300 hours community service for failing to report the matter.
