Jamaica's Glen Johnson, the former International Boxing Federation (IBF) light heavyweight champion, will make another bid at a world title on November 5 in Canada, when he challenges Lucian Bute, the IBF super middleweight champion, for his title.

It will be Johnson's second title fight this year, as he went up against Carl Froch, the World Boxing Council super middleweight champion, on June 4, and lost by majority decision. He gave his usual top-class performance in that fight, and this no doubt helped him to get this challenge against the Romania-born champion.

Nicknamed 'The Road Warrior' because of his willingness to go anywhere a good fight opportunity presents itself, Johnson will be giving credence to his nickname once more, as Bute now resides in Canada.

" I will go anywhere at any time to take on an opponent. I want this fight and I have no problem going to Bute's hometown to take him on," Johnson said, after the deal was agreed on.

He was not the first choice as an opponent, however. Bute's promoter wanted him to meet another former champion, Mikkel Kessler from Denmark, but Kessler turned down the offer, leaving the door open for Johnson. Johnson's promoter, Leon Margules, also had some reservations about the purse money offered, which is said to be in the region of $350,000, but his fighter gave instructions that the purse money should not prevent the fight from taking place.

Johnson's position is that if he settles for a low figure at this time, but goes on to win the title, then he will have the bargaining power as champion the next time around. He is also very confident that he can beat Bute. They know each other very well, as they used to train together in the same gym in Miami some years ago.

Bute is 31 and has a 29-0 record, while Johnson is 42 and has 51 wins, 15 losses and two draws. Bute also has an exceptional knockout record, having won 24 of his fights inside the distance. Johnson has 15 knockout victories to his credit. Bute's last victory was a title defence against Jean Paul Mendy on July 9 this year, and he knocked him out in four rounds. He has been champion since October 19, 2007.
