|
An anomaly was noted by a manager in the Customs Department which prompted an investigation by the commissioner of customs. A release from the department yesterday said the investigation surrounds additional duties that were levied and the deposits that should have been paid. It appears some persons were able to clear their goods without paying the additional duties. The investigation, the release said, is being carried out by the Customs Department with the support of the Flying Squad of the Jamaica Constabulary Force. The investigation is in the early stage. So far, two importers have been implicated as well as a broker and other persons of interest. The department said that as the investigation progresses, additional information will be made available to the public. |
