Jamaican-born twins in London store robbery sentenced
The 19-year-old Jamaican-born twins who were implicated in a London variety store robbery a year ago were sentenced to two years, less a day in jail, for their part in the robbery, THE WEEKEND STAR has learnt.

They are Dushane and Kishawn Edwards who were brought to Toronto, Canada, by their mother when they were infants.

THE WEEKEND STAR understands that the teenagers never sought Canadian citizenship and this may very well put them in jeopardy of deportation.

According to a previous report in the Toronto Sun, lawyers representing the brothers argued for a punishment below the federal prison range that would allow them to appeal any deportation order.

Allegations are that on August 10 last year, the men, along with an unnamed young offender, robbed a 7-11 variety store and terrorised the assistant manager.

The court heard that the assistant manager was dragged to a back room, punched in the head and put in a storage locker. His wallet, a gold ring and the keys to the safe were taken. The cash register and the US$27.34 inside were also taken.

The court further heard that the men left on foot and got into a Ford Focus but two witnesses saw them and followed the car to get the licence plate number. The information was then forwarded to the police and the twins were arrested about 20 minutes later.

The men apologised in court for their actions. However, Ontario Court Justice Gregory Pockele said the robbery was "exceptionally serious."

Dushane's defence lawyer Robert Kitto stressed his client wasn't the main player in the robbery and that the brothers had been in London visiting when they made "an absolutely terrible decision."

On top of the sentence, 18 months probation was also ordered.
