Former National Under-23 representative Lenworth Hyde Jr is hoping to make a big impact in the National Premier League with Humble Lions this season. Hyde, who is the son of Humble Lions' head coach Lenworth Hyde Sr, has been playing in a Connecticut League in the United States for the past four years. Shortly after arriving in the island yesterday, Hyde admitted that he missed playing in the local leagues and he is looking forward to the opportunity to working with his father. "I want to have a great impact in the Premier League this season," said the 28-year-old Hyde. "I want also want to bring back a lot flair and energy to the team and also to show the Jamaica people that I am still a very good player," Hyde said. "I also want to win the Premier League for my father and the Humble Lions team." However, Hyde, who won the Premier League with Tivoli Gardens in 2003, will first have to impress the coaching staff at the Clarendon-based club before he can secure a contract with the team. "I think that once I get my fitness level up there, then I will definitely make the team because everybody knows that I am good very skilful player and also a team player, so that should not be a problem," he said. Jamaica's squad Hyde, who is also a national senior invitee, added that he decided to return to Jamaica because he would like to be a member of Jamaica's squad for the World Cup qualifiers next year. "Football is my life and I want to get back into the national programme because the World Cup qualifiers are coming up soon and so I want to be playing for the country in this competition," Hyde said. When contacted, Hyde Sr said his son will certainly add a lot of quality to his team, which they were lacking in last season when they finished in 10th place in the league. "I think he will be a good fit our team because he is a very skilful players and he also provides a lot of depth to our team which was lacking last year," said Hyde Sr. He added: "We are not going to look at it as a father and son thing because it is the team that comes first and he will have follow the rules and regulation of the team." |
