Cops investigate JUTC bus/train accident

An investigation is now on to ascertain how a Jamaica Urban Transit Company bus ran about 100 meters from the Spanish Town Bus Park on to the railroad track.

As a result of the accident, the train could not make the 6:15 p.m. trip to Linstead.

Langford Holness, brakesman on the train, said persons on the train were very frightened when the bus ran on to the track.

"A three minutes before the train move that the bus come pon the line. This is really a miracle as it just shoot off pon de the line, it is very troubling to many," Holness said.

Meanwhile, the police interrogated the driver of the bus who said it had malfunctioned and ran on to the track.

Sylvia Tennant was one of many still on the train when The Weekend Star spoke with her.

"A Bog Walk I was going. In fact is a yellow bus like that mi come out of. It is very shocking to others who gone on other vehicles, " The 78-year-old Tennant said.

Many persons called the incident a miracle due to how close it was for departure time.
