Bog Walk gorge reopens

Rasbert Turner, Star Writer

The reopening of the Bog Walk gorge is one happy situation for Panchita Whyte as she had lost all hope of sending her two children to school.

"Right now, I am glad that the gorge reopen, but mi still confused due to the amount a money mi lose when it was ordered closed," Whyte said.

She told The Weekend Star she had to close her fruit stall for the time the gorge was closed and lost a great deal. "My daughter goes to Westwood High School and a don't buy anything as everything just perish and mi couldn't turn over any money," Whyte reasoned.

She was seen cleaning and putting new stock on the stall.

"Thank God it has finally reopened, it means that I can repay some of my debts. The closure really mashed up mi business," Kerine McGrath of Kerry's Pub in Kent Village said.

Her views echoed that of the many vendors selling bag juice, oranges, shrimps and other items along the stretch of road.

Commuters also told The Weekend Star that it will now take less time to traverse the road, which is an essential link between Kingston and the north coast.

The road was ordered closed by Minister of Water and Housing, Horace Chang, to facilitate the laying of pipes by the National Water Commission. Its closure prompted the restart of passenger rail service from Spanish Town to Linstead.
