Crystal Harrison, Star Writer An attempted murder suicide in Westmoreland over the weekend has left a couple hospitalised, THE STAR has learnt. The incident happened on Ricketts Street in Savanna-la-Mar. Information reaching THE STAR is that about 6 a.m. on Saturday, a man, in a fit of jealous rage, set ablaze his common-law wife while she was asleep. It is reported that the woman who had moments earlier retired to bed after attending a party was awoken to her clothes on fire. It is further reported that the woman who tried to escape from the room was allegedly held by her common-law husband. The common-law-husband was also reportedly on fire. Meanwhile, neighbours who heard the woman crying for help later assisted the woman to escape. The woman's rescuer was also burnt in the incident. All three persons were rushed to the Savanna-la-Mar Hospital. The rescuer was treated and released. In the meantime, the woman, who is in stable condition, has been transferred to the Kingston Public Hospital; while her attacker remains in the Savanna-la-Mar Hospital under police guard. The Westmoreland police are investigating. |
