Beheading the innocent |
|||||
Questions and concerns were raised this month as to what reasons criminals could have for beheading innocent people. The answers were numerous but many were of the view that those caught in the act of beheading people should suffer the same fate. "What could this woman and her daughter in St Catherine have done those wicked criminals who chopped off their heads and then hide them?" a man queried. "It must be criminals who are involved in devil worship or obeah," a woman remarked. "I don't think so," the man responded. He was of the view that criminals are watching too many movies and must have got the idea from a movie. "Movie, or no movie, I say those criminals must be lynched to teach them a lesson," the woman said. A man commenting on the beheading of a man last week in Bedward Gardens, August Town, St Andrew said, "things are getting out of hand." He was referring to the beheading of 37-year-old George 'Bobby' Smith. It was reported that Smith was killed because gangs were at war in the area. "When the gangs start to heat up the place, you know innocent people are going to be killed in the process," the man said. "I don't care if the gang members want to kill off themselves, but we all know that when they can't catch their enemies they are going to attack innocent people," he added. pressure on gangs "Beheading people is now the in-thing but the police must put pressure on the gangs so they have no time to wage war against each other," the man suggested. "This new type of murdering people, by beheading them, now leads me to wonder if the Government will start hanging some of those murder convicts who are in prison, and those in the beheading business should be hanged when they are caught, tried and convicted," he added. A person who beheads another person will not attract the death penalty unless the offence was committed during the course of a robbery or another as stipulated in the Offences Against the Person Act. |
