It was close, very close; but in the end, preliminary round runaways the Advantage Generals obliged, in the final of the 2011 Lime Cup golf tournament, to record a victory over the JustBet Springs and in the process grab top honours in the region's first team match-play championship at the Cinnamon Hill Golf Course in Rosehall, Montego Bay.

The Advantage Generals, marshalled by Sean Morris, bounced back to outlast the JustBet Springs, after losing their first two matches of the showdown, to register an emotional victory by a 5.5 to 4.5 margin and erase two disappointing years of second-place finishes for the Generals, which solidified their position as the best golfing team in the island.

Dethroned champions the Buccaneers of Appleton Estate had to settle for third place after taking out their frustration on the SportsMax MaxPak in the third-place consolation final, with a commanding 7.5 to 3.5 mauling.

In the fourth- and fifth-place play-off, the Pan Caribbean Jaguars scored a narrow 5.5 to 4.5 win over the Lime Lions.

Generals' captain Morris was the toast of the award section, walking away with two prizes - the winning coach and the series MVP honours, while his young charge, Sherisse Walker, who won all her matches, walked away with the top female golfer award, courtesy of Pan Caribbean.

Morris, who spent four days of the past week on the course - which happens to be his team's home strip, in preparation for the final, was, of course, elated by the victory.

"It was an emotional win for us, largely because we were beaten finalist in this competition twice and also because of how we had to come back after losing our first two matches in this final," said Morris, who hinted that his team may have allowed the burden of home-course 'advantage' to play too much on their minds in the opening exchanges.

"It's not always easy playing on your course, it adds pressure knowing that there is a heightened level of expectancy," Morris confessed before going on to share his thoughts on his personal achievements and contribution.

"In terms of the MVP award, I am quite elated to have been considered, but I owe a lot to the support that I received from the entire team," said Morris, who won all of his matches leading into the final.
