Labourer on fraud charge to know fate |
|||||
|
Rasbert Turner, Star Writer A man who was caught with a passport bearing the name of a dead person will have to wait until July 29 to know his fate. Charged with fraudulent conversion is Nigel Bailey, 39-year-old labourer of Spanish Town, St Catherine. The court was informed that police personnel searched the accused and found him with a passport bearing his picture, but the name 'Byron Leslie', who has been dead for years. In court, defence attorney Cecil Mitchell told the court that his client was given the 'aged' passport years ago, and it had expired in 1999. Resident Magistrate Marcia Dunbar-Green told the lawyer an offence would have still been committed. She demanded that the passport be brought to court. It was agreed that the appearance of the outdated passport could help with how much sentence is handed down. |
