Bail offered in cash-for-gold case

WESTERN BUREAU:

A 25-year-old farmer of Cambridge, St James, was offered bail in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday for reportedly engaging in illegal cash-for-gold trading.

Delano Spence pleaded not guilty to dealing in second-hand metal without a license.

Reports are that on July 15 at 6 p.m., Spence was seen at the intersection of Barnett and St James streets in Montego Bay, stopping people while shouting "Cash fi yu gold". He was searched by police and, despite nothing being found on him, was arrested and charged.

In court on Tuesday, Spence admitted to Resident Magistrate (RM) Carolyn Tai that he had a prior record for ganja.

RM Tai offered him $50,000 bail with up to two sureties and ordered him to submit his fingerprints to the police. The case returns before the court on August 18.
