Bartender on cocaine charge offered bail

A female bartender charged with several cocaine related offences was offered bail in the sum of $15,000,000 in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Jeseca Smith, 27, bartender from Hellshire, St Catherine, is charged with possession, dealing, importing, trafficking, conveying, conspiracy to import, conspiracy to traffic cocaine and two counts of possession of forged documents.

Smith is to return to court on August 24, when the matter will again be mentioned.

The conditions of Smith's bail include surrendering her travel documents. A stop order was also put in place.

Smith is also to report to the Transnational Crime and Narcotics Division on Mondays to Fridays between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Reports are that police, acting on intelligence, intercepted a white Nissan panel van along Mountain View Avenue with two occupants, the driver and a female passenger, on the day of the incident.

A search of the vehicle was conducted and two boxes which contained two four burner electric stoves were found.

The occupants were taken to the Elleston Road Police Station along with the vehicle and its contents where a further search was carried out and the stoves striped in the presence of both occupants.

Each stove was reportedly found to contain eight small rectangular sized transparent plastic bags and one large rectangular size transparent plastic.

Another 16 small rectangular plastic bags and two large rectangular plastic bags were found.

Therefore, a total of 18 bags containing white powdery substance resembling cocaine, weighing about 42 pounds were found.

As a result of investigations carried out, Smith was subsequently arrested and the driver released pending further investigations and the vehicle seized.
